Nursing Supervisor - Gadsden
Job Responsibilities
Direct medical care                                                                                      
  • Care and counseling of clients, promotion and maintenance of health, and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process including: systematic data gathering; assessment; and appropriate nursing judgment
  • Conduct sick call for treatment & follow-up, daily if needed
  • Communicate all medication orders to pharmacy and post on MARS per M.D orders
  • Execute medical regimens including the administration of medication and treatment as prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized physician or dentist
  • Make all medical appointments and arrange transportation
  • Assist contract and consulting providers (medical, dental & vision) with appointments
  • Scribe orders on charts, fax any prescriptions received, copy and place on MARS or OTC sheet after provider appointment
  • Ensure medication count and quality checks are completed
  • 24 hour follow up with any new medications that are started
  • Follow up with program staff and teachers on all psych medication effectiveness/changes in behavior, etc.
  • Supervise all aspects of the nursing services, including ensuring quality of work of all nursing staff in accordance with the Alabama Board of Nursing and The Bridge policies and procedures
  • Act as a liaison between medical services and administration
  • Notify Program Managers of all visits and outcomes for sick call, medical, dental, psych, and vision and complete weekly reports
  • Promptly provide all documentation requested by medical contract providers
  • Order all supplies and check for and dispose of any expired medical supplies
  • Ensure any special diets ordered in charts are communicated with treatment staff & food service manager/supervisor
  • Ensure record-keeping in accordance with the standards of the Alabama Board of Nursing
  • Audit client charts for correct and necessary documentation
  • Ensure the safe and secure storage and protection of active client medical records, and the secure transfer of discharged client medical records to the appropriate program manager
  • Comply with Alabama Board of Nursing and DMH standard requirements regarding limitations and authorizations of the MAS
  • Conduct Alabama Board of Nursing training as directed to ensure adequate staffing of Certified Medication Assistant- trained staff
  • Provide clinical supervision for MAC (Medication Administration Certification) workers in accordance with Alabama Board of Nursing guidelines
  • Perform on-call duties as required 24/7 (i.e. standing orders, injuries)
  • Conduct intakes, physicals, drug screens of all new clients, and new employees as well as random drug screens, annual physicals and drug screens
  • Ensure end of the month summary for all programs is submitted to designated staff
  • Participate in regular meetings that promote the safety and well-fare of clients; including Treatment Team, Incident Analysis, and Quality Assurance meetings
  • Maintain Safety Manual Control Log
  • Conduct hygiene class once per month per program
  • Conduct client medical exit exams

Supervisory Authority
  • Supervises regular employees
  • Assigns/schedules work activities and manages overtime
  • Monitors, supervises, and trains employees in accordance with the Nurse Delegation Program
  • Conducts employee performance appraisals
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings and document
Required Skills
  • Minimum completion of accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program
  • Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse through the Alabama Board of Nursing
  • Secure and maintain the Medication Assistant Supervisor (MAS) certification within thirty (30) days of the date of hire and annual training requirements
  • Secure and maintain CPR and First Aide certification within thirty (30) days of the date of hire
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent computer skills including:
  • Office 2000, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Cultural sensitivity in working with internal and external consumers including clients, staff, volunteers, referral agents, vendors, community organizations, etc. 
Other Job Requirements
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Safely operate 8-12 passenger van
